Currently we are 19 groups, with a total of ca 100 people, that are affiliated to the Integrated Structural Biology at Umeå University. Together we utilise Structural Biology using different approaches and methodologies to study various biological problems. Most groups are located at Umeå University at two different faculties, but we also have members at the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI).
We have complementary expertise within structural biology, which is extremely valuable when pursuing challenging biological questions. Together we cover most of the structural biology techniques available today, including X-Ray crystallography, Electron Microscopy, Liquid and Solid state NMR, Molecular and Quantum Dynamics, Time resolved Wide Angle X-Ray Scattering as well as expertise in Biochemistry, Biophysics and Organic Chemistry. To support this we have world-class facilities in Cryo Electron Microscopy, NMR, Protein Crystallography and a High Performance Computing Center for molecular modelling, as well as an outstanding facility for biological imaging.
